lyrics

I've read big brown books in the library
Yeats and Poe and Socrates
Walked the streets in the City of Song
Where they write hits all day long

But that don't compare to the back of a room
Razor wire, concrete tomb
Where I sang to Spoon "hey man you've got a friend"
And he opened his heart and let me in

It's real and it's true it's everything you do not
Show the world outside
It's shadow and love, down deep and up above
Written in your eyes
The Poetry of Life

I was electrified by the beautiful souls
So I took the advice and let if flow
When got nothin' left but the words in your head
You just let it fly 'cause they can't take that

And I saw a ray of light like the sun
When the warriors danced and Dark Cloud drummed
All of the voices became one sound
Out of bounds, out of bounds

It's real and it's true it's everything you do not
Show the world outside
It's shadow and love, down deep and up above
Written in your eyes
The Poetry of Life

There's life within, life without
There's life within, life without

Well it wasn't a dream or a B movie
It was a day and a week with men unfree
And if that weren't enough to just blow my mind
I saw God in everybody's eyes

I said "hey God I wanna know"
"does a love light shine in every soul?"
The answer was spit right back at me
In the songs and the paintings and the poetry

It's real and it's true it's everything you do not
Show the world outside
It's shadow and love, down deep and up above
Written in your eyes
The Poetry of Life
